Padfield leather is tanned in England, UK
At Padfield we believe that to be a truly British brand we must craft locally from British materials whenever possible. The Padfield Pebble Grain leather, from which the Somerset clutch is crafted, is tanned in Somerset England.
The hides originate from British and Irish beef and dairy farming. The UK is ranked A, sharing the highest rank status with Austria, Switzerland, and New Zealand as one of the top countries in the world for animal welfare and environmental standards.
In deciding to work with a by-product of British farming, Padfield is choosing to utilise a hide that would either go to waste or be exported abroad.
Our research suggests that most hide from British beef and dairy farming is exported abroad, which is disappointing considering how many British leather accessory brands there are. Why are more British brands not crafting at home in Britain from home-grown hide?
Metal fittings
Where possible we source our metal fittings in the UK. As the UK made fitting selection is very limited we source some fittings from Europe and Asia.
If you are a UK maker of high quality brass metal fittings, please do get in touch as we would love to work with you.
