All Padfield leather is tanned in England, UK.
At Padfield we believe that to be a truly British brand we must craft locally from British tanned leather. The Padfield tan pebble grain leather, from which the Somersley bag was crafted, is tanned in Somerset England.
Our Somerset tannery partner works with hides originating from British (predominantly) and Irish beef and dairy farming. The UK is proud to have some of the highest animal welfare and environmental standards in the world.
In deciding to work with a by-product of British farming, Padfield is choosing to utilise a hide that would either go to waste or be exported abroad. Most hide from British beef and dairy farming is exported abroad, which is a sad fact considering how many British leather accessory brands there are. Do the British brands you choose to support work with British hides and British leather? If not, why not?
At Padfield we believe that sourcing and making locally is the most responsible and sustainable option.
Padfield works with the highest quality metal zips available YKK Excella®. Sourced via YKK UK from YKK Europe. We would love to work with British or UK made metal zippers, however, after an extensive search we have not been able to identify a local maker. If you are a British maker of high quality metal zippers, please do get in touch.
